Species from this genus are occasionally cultivated as [ornamental plants](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ornamental_plant). The genus name honours [Anton Pantaleon Hove](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Anton_Pantaleon_Hove&action=edit&redlink=1), a Polish plant collector.
